Owned and operated by the City of Midland, Midland International Air & Space Port is situated conveniently between Odessa and Midland, providing easy access to either of these downtown areas. The Federal Aviation Administration issued a license to the airport in September 2014 to allow for commercial spaceflight. Before this recent change, the airport went through many other changes over the years, including name changes. It originally was named Sloan Field when the airport began operations in 1927. Shortly after that, it went through yet another name change, and became Midland Army Air Field. Today, the best way to get to and from this airport is by chartering a private flight.
