Concord-Padgett Regional Airport is a popular airport choice for travelers heading to the Charlotte Motor Speedway, and because of this, the airport is often simply known as as “NASCAR’s Airport.” Its official name, however, was meant to honor Scott Padgett, longtime Mayor of Concord. It wasn’t until 2018 that the airport was renamed to Concord-Padgett Regional Airport. Prior to being renamed, the airport was simply Concord Regional Airport.

University of Illinois Willard Airport was dedicated in October 1945. Currently, the airport has two concrete runways and one asphalt runway. It wasn’t until 1987, however, that a new terminal was completed in order to accommodate increasing passenger traffic. The airport was also home to the University of Illinois Institute of Aviation until 2014.
